PIZZA:: MARGHERITA

 

MARINARA

 

1 cup diced onions

4 tbs olive oil

6 cloves of garlic smashed

1 cup fresh basil, roughly chopped 

1/4 tsp salt and

1/4 tsp black pepper 

 

1/2 cup basil in oil

1 28oz can of whole peeled tomatoes (Sam Marzano if possible) 

 

Place oil in pot

Add onions

Turn on medium heat and fry for a couple of minutes until onions are translucent. Add garlic and 1/2 cup rough chopped basil along with salt and pepper. Fry for a couple more minutes until fragrant

Add tomatoes.

Crush with potato masher or break apart whole tomatoes with a spoon. They will break down as you cook. Add the remainder of the basil and simmer,stirring frequently, for about 1 hour. 

Makes approx 4 cups.

PIZZA 

 

Pre heat oven to 400.

Roll out a 14 to 18 oz ball of dough into the desired shaped pizza.

Drizzle olive oil, salt and pepper over the dough and spread evenly with your hand.

​

Place 1 1/2 -2 cups marinara sauce on pizza dough and spread evenly. Add Mozzarella cheese evenly over the sauce. Bake for 20-25 minutes until crust is lightly browned and cheese has melted.

Remove from the oven place fresh basil, roughly chopped, over the pizza. Slice and serve!
